The Cyclades islands can be easily portrayed as a vigorous fire between new glamour and old glory because of its high fashion celebrity holidaymakers, dazzling nightlife, breath taking views and ancient history. There are 220 islands part of the Cyclades such as Anafi, Ios, Kimolos, Naxos, Paros, Sikinos and Santorini, but if you have to choose only one, I would do Mykonos with a day visit to Delos.

Whether chilling in Buddha bar, Mykonos or just browsing the chic boutiques of the old city you will feel romanticized. You will often be captured in a photo of another fellow tourist or even in a glitzy scene of Linsey Lokshen’s latest reality show. Either way you will remember your visit and your visit will remember you. This is a type of experience that leaves a mark on your quest and stays with you. The island's style can be emblematically described as a cocktail, a martini mix of St. Tropez and Ibiza with an olive from Portofino.

And if nowadays celebrity lifestyle is not able to impress you, the ancient island of Gods, Delos will . Delos is an island-museum, a truly extraordinary outdoor museum that is just minutes away on a ferry ride from Mykonos. Delos is one of the most important archaeological, historical, and mythological sites in Greece and even the Mediterranean. Conveniently, a major part of the artifacts found there are currently displayed at the Archaeological Museum of Delos located also on the island.

Delos, Cyclades Islands, Greece

The Greek Mythology tells a story about Leto, the love interest of Zeus, the sky and thunder God, the king of the Gods of Mountain Olympus and also the husband of Hera. Hera was extremely jealous of her husband’s relationship with Leto especially after Leto conceived from Zeus. Hera was a powerful Goddess and used her influence to make it impossible for Leto to give birth anywhere on land. In her search for a place to deliver her children, Leto found an island that was not attached to the ocean floor which finally freed her from Hera’s powers.

Today, this island is known as Delos. As Leto gave birth to Apollo and Artemis, Delos continues to give birth to the most fascinating ancient archaeological findings today. So you no longer need to decide between new glamour and old glory, in your visit to Mykonos and Delos you can have it all. Enjoy!
